Rihanna’s lingerie line, Savage X Fenty, is dropping tomorrow. This is the next stage in the Rihanna Inc domination – as Duana and I discussed on the last episode of Show Your Work, Rihanna, the CEO, is on a win streak. Fenty x Puma has been a major success, winning the Shoe of the Year award in 2016 and in 2017 it was reported that “Puma’s share price …climbed nearly €200”. As you know, Fenty Beauty was one of the most lucrative makeup launches in recent history. She delivered an inclusive product that people developed an emotional connection to – it’s the dream of any business.
And it seems like she’s doing it again with Savage X Fenty. Let’s start with the price point:
Nothing over $100.
Not just one set of handcuffs either! It’s a range of handcuffs!
Vogue reports that:
In total, Savage x Fenty will be comprised of 90 pieces of lingerie, sleepwear, and accessories, including four capsule collections within the main line. RiRi has christened her core collection On the Reg, and it will include bras available in every shade of nude alongside T-shirt bras, undies, and more everyday essential items. The U Cute collection is a riff on modern girlishness with many of the lacy pieces seen on the Savage x Fenty Instagram, while the Damn line has a decidedly sexier edge, featuring rompers, garter belt sets, and bodysuits. For the ultimate bad gal, there’s the Black Widow collection, which the brand describes as “risqué and ultra sexy.” Think, cupless bodysuits, half-cut bras, and open-back bikini bottoms.
I am not a lingerie person. I don’t even wear underwear. But Rihanna’s has made room for me – sleepwear for sure and…I was curious about what a “T-shirt bra” is. Because I’ve stopped wearing grownup bras. For almost three years now, I have not worn a bra with a clasp. I am exclusively a sports bra or a bralette person. I’m so militant about it that my clothing choices are completely dictated by my bra preference. If an outfit requires a bra with a clasp, I don’t care how cute it is, I won’t do it. Clasp-free for life. This has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. So the point is that I was hoping that Rihanna’s “T-shirt” bra would be for me. It is not. It has a clasp and underwire, double whammy:
There are bralettes!
And she hasn’t even shown us any of the pyjamas yet. That’s the first tab I’m hitting tomorrow when the Savage X Fenty site goes live. Note too that Rihanna has also, like her beauty line, made the collection as accessible as possible with shades and sizes. Everything will be available from 32A to 44DD and from XS to 3XL.
Rihanna. So good at her work. Work, work, work, work, work. That was corny as f-ck. But it’s so in line with what we do on Show Your Work, and our ongoing obsession with celebrities and their work, I couldn’t help it.
