In the weeks preceding her confirmation at the Met Gala that she and Rocky are expecting their third child together, Rihanna wore a series of baggy outfits so as to guard the surprise, even though it really wasn’t all that much of a surprise. It’s impolite to come right out and say it but if you’d seen any photos of her appearances, in pap photos or at events, the speculation made sense. And there was SO much speculation online.
Now that it’s official, having saved the announcement with her outfit at the Met Gala a couple of weeks ago, Rihanna’s fashion choices are… well… she’s free to not hide it anymore. And since this is the third time, if we’ve learned anything about Rihanna’s pregnancy style, it’s all about less is more.
She wore a cut-out dress on the red carpet the other night and she stepped out in an even more revealing fit last night while out to dinner with Rocky. This is a lot of shoulder, a lot of belly, and a lot of leg.
It’s sexy, for sure, but it’s also comfortable. And sometimes sexy and comfort do not work together. But this, I imagine, is ideal for someone who is likely closer to the happy conclusion of her pregnancy than the beginning of it. So far neither Rihanna nor Rocky have talked about a due date – and they didn’t for RZA or Riot. RZA just celebrated his third birthday last week, Riot will turn two in August. They like their spring and summer babies.
Will be interesting to see if their third baby gets a photo shoot like their siblings. There was some photo shooting happening last night at one point when, like so many celebrities at this level, Rihanna and Rocky were seen posing along the Croisette with what looks to be an official photographer. Unclear at this point whether or not any of these images with live anywhere in public but, of course, they all have archives now, accumulating a trove of pictures, beyond the camera roll on their phones, and other footage that may or may not roll out eventually.
It’s now been nine years since Rihanna’s last album, ANTI. And there will definitely not be any new music this year. Imagine then, if and when she’s good and ready to drop an album all the visuals she’s been storing up that she might share.
