My best friend was in town a couple of weeks ago from Vancouver and we spent part of our time together holiday shopping. Fiona and I have been friends for almost 25 years and for us, shopping also includes walking. We probably walked at least 25km that weekend and I’m telling you this because the walking part of the shopping means that our shopping outfits consisted of whatever is comfortable to walk in, especially in the cold. Sneakers for sure, jeans for her, and joggers for me with leg warmers on top because I’m a pathetic baby and I’m always freezing. The holiday shopping wardrobe, our version, deters us from buying for ourselves, most of the time. Because unless it’s something you really, really, really desperately want, you’re not that inclined to remove all those f-cking layers.
This obviously is not a problem for celebrities, and definitely not a problem for Rihanna. She and Rocky went shopping at Saks the other day. Rihanna showed up in a fur coat, bike shorts, athletic socks, and Crocs. Designer Crocs, naturally. The ones she’s wearing are Simone Rocha collabs. I know at this point Crocs are almost ordinary, but I don’t think I’ve ever put my foot in one. Everyone keeps saying how comfortable they are – like how comfortable are we talking? I average on a regular work day between 8-10km, accounting for my commute and other errands. Can I do 10k in a Croc?
Last night, Rihanna, Rocky, and baby Riot hit up the CVS. I appreciate that she needed a full cart for her drug store haul. Duana and I have often needed a cart at the CVS just for Oscar weekend and all the all-nighters. And Rihanna’s fit for the CVS? Casual. A Bottega Veneta set, lol. With jewellery too.
But this reminds me…
Chanel last week finally named Matthieu Blazy as its new creative director. Not a surprise – I posted about this a few weeks ago and Sarah wrote about it on Friday – and it’s great for Chanel but a huge loss for Bottega Veneta because, as noted, Bottega was on a big upswing under his stewardship. At Chanel, Matthieu is expected to oversee ten collections a year and accessories etc etc. This is a big job, for a legacy brand, and right now, according to initial statements from the executives, he’ll be given some space to innovate. We’ll have to see what that really looks like considering Chanel is such a specific energy. Like, gasp, what if he gets rids of the chains? Or, maybe, how will he reimagine the chains? First collection is happening in October, it’ll likely be the most anticipated fashion industry moment of 2025.
