Dear Gossips,

If you’ve never watched Abbott Elementary – and if that’s the case, WHY NOT?! – and you’re wondering why so many of us are so devoted to it, the opening of the Screen Actors Guild awards last night may have given you some idea.

Quinta Brunson and Janelle James were the last to do the “I’m an Actor” bit to kick off the show. And, well, of course they were delightful. Janelle, for me, has become one of those performers who doesn’t have to say sh-t and I’m already laughing. When she does have something to say, her delivery always sends me…

Here it’s when she goes, “This ain’t one of them kiss cams, is it?”

Janelle is good for at least two moments like this per episode on Abbott Elementary. A true scene-stealer. And now she has a SAG award, as the show won Best Ensemble Comedy last night not even 18 months after it premiered. What an achievement for Quinta and what an achievement for a cast that, clearly, adores each other. Here’s what Lisa Ann Walter told Essence about working with Sheryl Lee Ralph:

But also, if you’re an Abbott Elementary fan… the timing this week! Because you know what happened last week! The gardening! The flowers! Twitter couldn’t handle it.

It was the lanyard for a lot of people. Including me. That was a MOVE.

And we were all Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Can we just appreciate Sheryl Lee Ralph and the looks she was serving this weekend though? She is styled by her daughter, Coco, who has killed it all award season long. The Tadashi Shoji dress she wore to the SAGs was stunnnnnnningggg:

And her look at the NAACP Awards on Saturday night was a f-cking showstopper:

More SAGs coverage to come.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
