Dear Gossips,

It was announced yesterday that Sandra Oh and Awkwafina will star together in a new comedy for Netflix…which… YES!

Sandra Oh will play a loner and Awkwafina her mess of a sister who decides to fix their broken relationship by helping her get on her favourite game show. I can already picture it, their chaotic energy, and all the hilarious facial expressions these two will be serving.

But what kind of game show?

Will be it Jeopardy style? Or The Price is Right style? The Price is Right came to mind for me because my grandmother, who spoke zero English, used to watch The Price is Right – and understand. I used to laugh about this with my East Asian friends growing up because for some reason, it was their same with their family members too.

The film, still untitled, will be produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions, a subsidiary of Gary Sanchez Productions (founded by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay), that focuses on female-led comedies. Booksmart and Hustlers came from Gloria Sanchez, as well as the upcoming Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar starring Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. The script was written by Jen D’Angelo – so this is a project with women involved both in front of and behind the camera…and it’s a comedy, which is a space typically dominated by men. A director has not been named yet so I’m curious to see if it’ll end up being a woman too.

In other Awkwafina news, she’s been in Sydney for months working on Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Simu Liu posted earlier this week that production has finally wrapped…

…and safely…

Not much is known about Awkwafina’s character in the movie and she hasn’t shared much about her experience either as they’re keeping as many details locked down as they possibly can. Due to the pandemic, its release date has been pushed multiple times. Right now we’re looking at July 2021, a proper summer blockbuster. Please, by then, will it please be safe to go to back to the movies?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
