Sebastian Stan: Still Hot

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first Marvel television show to hit Disney+ next fall. Well, it will be the first new Marvel television show, you can find The Inhumans on Disney+ now. Remember The Inhumans? No? That’s okay, no one does! I’m actually surprised it’s there, I assume Kevin Feige and the people of Marvel Studios—who did not participate in television development until now—would rather everyone forget about misfires like The Inhumans. But I guess Disney just needs to shovel content onto their platform until they have more new originals to advertise. You know what would be hilarious? If we all watched The Inhumans right now. Just drive those algorithms and analytics crazy and see what weird sh-t results from it. Let’s see what Marvel Studios gives us if they think we’re all super into cheap ass looking C-level heroes. We could all agree to make one f-cking random choice and steer the algorithm and see how data-driven streaming services respond. Data is going to destroy the world; we might as well have some fun with it.

Sebastian Stan was photographed on set in Atlanta the other day, rocking Bucky’s new short hair. Though I miss Bucky’s luscious locks, this is a Good Look, and based on Bucky’s sudden penchant for jackets and gloves, I assume Stan has hit a wall dealing with the metal arm and this is the costume alternative. I wonder how much time he saves getting in costume now. An hour? At least? You can really tell when a superhero actor hits that wall because their character always get a new haircut that doesn’t involve sitting in the makeup chair for a wig application and suddenly they find reasons not to suit up as much. Anyway, Sebastian Stan: Still hot.

Something to note about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier—the series director is Canada’s own Kari Skogland. She is directing all six episodes. She joins the ranks alongside Anna Boden and Chloe Zhao as women directing for Marvel. I’ve not really seen anyone discussing this, which is maybe a sign that hiring women to direct superhero stuff is becoming normalized, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is not some cheap sh-t like The Inhumans, it has a feature film budget (rumored to be around $150 million). We should absolutely be talking about Kari Skogland as a comic book movie lady boss. Also, one of the series writers is Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick. So while six hours of Sebastian Stan running around looking like that is enticing, the real allure of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is behind the camera. Let me rephrase: The real allure of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is Sebastian Stan’s cheekbones, but the creative team is compelling, too.
