Anne Hathaway confirmed a few days ago that The Princess Diaries 3 is happening. I’m not as obsessed with The Princess Diaries as others but I think it might be generational and that there’s a whole generation just behind me that’s extremely devoted to Mia Thermopolis of Genovia. 

 

Which is why people lost their sh-t. 

 

 

I lost my sh-t because for a different reason: Adele Lim. You’ll recall, Adele worked on the Crazy Rich Asians script. Warner Bros asked her to come back and co-write the sequel but she was offered less money than her male counterpart so she walked. And instead wrote and directed her own movie, Joy Ride, one of the funniest films of 2023. And now she’ll be directing The Princess Diaries 3. Stay winning, Adele. 

 

As soon as the news about PD3 went viral, though, people started talking about Chris Pine. Which was an unexpected bonus for him because he happens to be on a book tour right now (we’ll get to this in a minute). Yesterday Chris was in New York, on The TODAY Show, where Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush asked him about it and he said he had no idea, and then on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. 

 

 

I don’t have an opinion on whether or not Chris Pine should return to Genovia. What I would rather talk about is his acknowledgement that this is, by far, out of all the movies he’s done, what people come up to him the most about. And what kind of movie is it? Well, it’s a movie for girls! A movie that girls and women responded to, care deeply about, can recite in their sleep. A movie that belongs to a genre that is often disrespected, not taken seriously, and certainly not supported enough – even though its pop culture impact is UNDENIABLE. 

Anne Hathaway, clearly, gets this. Because she was a girl and is now a woman. But so many dudes in the business don’t. I hope Chris does, though. If he is indeed your Best Chris, I know you hope he does too. 

Now to his book – it’s a children’s book, When Digz the Dog Met Zurl the Squirrel. Cute. The book was inspired by Chris’s two rescue dogs, and the fictional Digz looks like Chris’s dog Wednesday. Chris tells Parade in a new cover story that he was on a hike with his friend when she suggested the idea to him after one his dogs ran after a squirrel. This was during COVID and that turned into this story about Digz and Zurl, sworn enemies, who discover that they have more in common than they thought.

Because just a week ago Jennifer Aniston was out here promoting her children’s book, Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life, that was inspired by her own dog, Clyde. And she too has two dogs. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? 

Have we ever Gossip Genied Jennifer Aniston and Chris Pine? Should we? I mean he already sorta kinda namechecked her with Jimmy Fallon when he talked about his “Rachel” hairstyle. They already have another connection with Horrible Bosses. Chris is the younger, way cooler, non-problematic Brad Pitt. Are we all in on this?
