I tried the other day to watch every angle I could of Simone Biles doing the Yuchenko Double Pike in combination. It’s historic. But apparently the gymnastics federation isn’t all that impressed. For…whatever …reasons. Here’s an athlete who spent the COVID year improving, elevating the sport, pushing herself, which is the definition of athletic spirit. And they have decided not to reward her. Because, as Simone put it, they “don’t want the field to be too far apart”. That’s actually gracious of her when she doesn’t have to be. Many others are calling it something else. (Cele|bitchy)

Mark Ronson might soon be related to Meryl Streep because he’s dating Grace Gummer. I don’t have any thoughts on this other than the fact that I once sat next to Mark Ronson at a TIFF screening (for The Hate U Give) in the nosebleeds. Like the upper, upper deck of Roy Thomson Hall, and he was on his own, so he just wanted to go see a movie and took any promo ticket he could get. Afterwards he walked out on his own, nobody recognised him, and there was nothing fancy to pick him up. (Dlisted)

For the second year in a row, the Cannes Film Festival is not what it used to be – a spectacle. Cannes would have been happening now, or just ending, and the Fug Girls are looking back at the fashion. This is Marion Cotillard in 2014 and seven years later, I love each and every one of these outfits. (Go Fug Yourself)

This is an easy answer for me – Reddit question: what TV show have you watched more than five times and still find it entertaining? For a lot of people it’s Friends or Seinfeld. For me it’s The West Wing, Friday Night Lights, and more recently, Insecure. (Pajiba)

Speaking of TV shows though… A DIFFERENT WORLD! The Oral History! Yes, I mainlined this as soon as Vanity Fair hit publish and yes I will read it at least one more time before I go to bed tonight and yes I will read it again, probably, tomorrow and if you haven’t already, what are you waiting for?
