KP + JT: A Corn and Cheese Birthday

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are playing out basically like fanfic at this point – and I’m not mad at it, LOL. It’s just that these are the most obvious and derivative plot beats and somehow that fits these two perfectly too. Which is why, from the jump, I’ve said that KP and JT make perfect sense, they are good for each other and good for gossip. 

It started, of course, with the most Montreal of Montreal dates, followed by Justin going full fanboy at her concert the next night. Then, after laying low for a couple of months, Katy and Justin were papped all over each other on a yacht in California, where his shirtless jeans look went viral. For those of you outside Canada, JT and his jeans have long been a thing.

Wonder what they might do with the latest installment of the Katy and Justin show as he joined her for her birthday this weekend in Paris. Look at them, the smuggiest couple of the moment, as they left the restaurant. 

They both look so pleased for themselves, and frankly, I’m pleased for them and for all of us. That’s what fanfic almost always is – deeply unserious but really f-cking fun. And for both of them, who’ve had rough professional rides over the last couple of years, the unbridled obviousness with which they are performing this at their haters is hilarious in and of itself, Justin in particular since he’s probably Canada’s most polarising public figure, out here wining and dining and romancing a popstar while his political enemies keep trying to find new ways to blame him. This is pure entertainment, please don’t stop.
