Dear Gossips,
I woke up this morning to see Solange trending on Twitter, exactly what we need to coast into the weekend. When I Come Home is the follow-up to the Grammy-winning album A Seat at the Table, the best work of her career to that point, released in 2016. Back in October, Solange promised that the new release would “make your trunk rattle” but also that it was “warm…fluid and more sensual than her last one”. All of this is true. When I Come Home will rattle your trunk and it will chill you out, make you want to stretch and purr. After one listen, so far, my favourite song is “Stay Flo”. I’m also really feeling “Way to the Show”.
You know what else I love about it? The album is 19 tracks, which includes interludes, that add up to 39 minutes. Solange doesn’t add unnecessary bloat. She keeps it tight, quality high. Grande’s thank u, next album is slightly longer, at 41 minutes. Lorde’s Melodrama, one of the best albums of the last few years, is also 41 minutes. You know who I’m talking to here? Drake. Scorpion, Views, and More Life were at least 30% too long, if not more.
I can’t wait to get home tonight and put on my headphones, spend 39 minutes X at least 3 with Solange because the experience listening in the car, or on a speaker, is totally different than how it sounds with your headphones on. This is her gift to us: bliss.
Have a great weekend!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
