The Tony nominations were announced yesterday, and as Lainey said, it was a historic day for Daniel Dae Kim—most successful Lost alum: discuss—but now we turn to his fellow nominee, George Clooney. George hit the pitch yesterday for a Broadway Show League softball game in Central Park, they play on Thursdays with teams made up from the casts and crews of shows and various unions. They’ve just started the 2025 season, if you’re in New York and interested.
George seems to be enjoying his time on Broadway, maybe in part because it’s a steady gig that allows him to sleep in his own bed at night. And it certainly doesn’t hurt now that he’s a Tony nominee—he’s also a TOE nominee (Tony, Oscar, Emmy).
But some people are mad on his behalf that Good Night, and Good Luck didn’t get a Best Play nomination, never mind that it is a box office hit.
This is like when people complain about blockbuster movies not getting a Best Picture nomination, it’s embarrassing for everyone involved. Good Night, and Good Luck is a hit from every angle, with good reviews, good box office, and five Tony nominations. So it didn’t get a Best Play nomination, oh well. They’ll just have to settle for all that money.
