Several celebrities got married this past weekend. Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Turner both got married in France. Zoe’s wedding dress is the one I am desperate to see – but, not surprisingly, she’s yet to share it. She may never share it. We didn’t have to wait too long for Sophie Turner’s.
As predicted, it’s Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquiere. He shared a shot of it from the back:
Is this the dress you expected? I didn’t. And it’s exquisite. Look at the beading, the detail. The veil, too, is gorgeous. I generally prefer a cathedral-length but in this case, you wouldn’t want to cover up all the craft, all the precise handwork, the hours upon hours it likely took for the seamstresses to sew in those … pearls? They look like pearls to me, the way the beads are taking the light.
You know what I like most about this dress? I’m not sure that I would have chosen it for myself but I do love that it’s doing something different, that it stands out from the crowd. Sophie’s dress is not “on trend”. It could, however, start its own trend with these sleeves. I love a cap sleeve. For some people, though, had she left it at the cap sleeve, without the lace sleeves extending to the wrist, it would have felt too casual. This way, though, the cap sleeve and its shape are preserved, but the lace gives it an extra level of formality – and, as an added effect, the long sleeves draw the eye more to the plunge deep V and the skin exposed between her breasts. Modern but also medieval. Like Annabelle Wallis’s Jane Seymour wedding dress in The Tudors:
That costume was amazing. Here’s another shot of it with the veil:
Sophie’s dress is giving me the same vibes. Regal as f-ck. And fitting, of course, for the Queen in the North.
