Dear Gossips,

Started the day yesterday talking about “Golden”, from the Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack and whether or not it could reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ended the day with the confirmation: “Golden” has indeed topped the chart, adding to the movie’s ever-growing list of surprise achievements. Like, of course people thought Kpop Demon Hunters would find an audience… but no one could have predicted how large the audience would be. At this point, “Golden” has to be considered an Oscar frontrunner for Best Original Song. Until, of course, Wicked: For Good does its thing in November.

For now, though, Kpop Demon Hunters is still soaring. As of last week, it was once again the most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States, surpassing Happy Gilmore 2, which is extraordinary because Demon Hunters came out a full month before Happy 2 so people are still finding it and others are still rewatching it. And streaming the music over and over again. And making TikToks about it. Halloween this year is going to be all HUNTR/X and Saja Boys.

Definitely don’t sleep on Saja Boys. “Your Idol” is the second song in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and over on the streaming charts, "the Demon Hunters soundtrack holds six of the top 10 songs on Spotify’s U.S. 50 chart, and four of the top five. “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” took the No. 2 and No. 4 slots there, while “How It’s Done,” “What It Sounds Like” and “Takedown” took fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively.” It speaks to the strength of the entire soundtrack – almost every song is a banger. But not just that, the songs aren’t just bops, they also serve the story. And compliment each other. “Golden” and “What It Sounds Like” are sister songs, and together they answer to “Your Idol”. “Takedown” and “How It’s Done” are also similarly related. When they talk about album cohesion, the Kpop Demon Hunters is doing that too. And I’m saying all this in part because I really want to see a medley at the Oscars. Unless, of course, those old f-cks at the Academy are on their bullsh-t again. These stats and numbers, though, are making it harder for them to deny it. “This is what it sounds like!”

Yours in gossip,
