Earlier this week Deadline reported that David Fincher had landed on his next project: an English-language Squid Games series. Apparently he’ll be working on it through 2025 and it’s a spinoff from the original that takes place in South Korea, only this one will happen in America. Not entirely sure why this would be necessary since the themes of Hwang Dong-hyuk’s story are universal (capitalism, class divide, exploitation, and oppression). That said, I dunno, maybe this needs to be made more obvious in an American setting.

While details of that are yet to be confirmed, we are getting closer and closer to the release of Squid Game season two in December. The first season remains the most-watched show in Netflix history and, you’ll recall, it happened without any expectation. There was barely a marketing campaign behind it. This time, obviously, is much different. Two days ago Netflix alerted everyone on social media that a teaser was coming. And yesterday the teaser dropped.

There is no stopping the game. That’s how desperation works. That’s why these human beings become experimental playthings for the Squid Game overlords. Although, of course, we are still waiting to learn more about the Front Man’s motivations and how his brother, who survived the fall, will factor into the situation.

This preview was shared yesterday at Lucca Comic & Games, the European Comic-Con, in Italy.

Hwang Dong-hyuk was there with his stars, Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-jun.

What I’m taking from this is, unlike in 2021, when travel restrictions were still in place due to the pandemic, there will be a press tour for season two. For sure, of course, Lee Jung-jae will be everywhere. And possibly Lee Byung-hun, the Front Man, and also Gong Yoo, the Salesman? As I’ve said before, if we get all three Korean kings together on promo, it’s a very big deal.

Speaking of Gong Yoo, though, he already got his standalone the Salesman, aka the Slapper, teaser last month, but Squid Game season two isn’t the only Netflix production he’ll be repping this month. Earlier this week Netflix released the first trailer for a new drama called The Trunk co-starring Seo Hyun-jin, which is dropping November 29.

And just as we saw in that Squid Game teaser, there’s also a Gong Yoo shower scene in this one. THANK YOU FOR GIVING THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT.

Please get familiar with Gong Yoo if you aren’t already. Because he’s going to be my whole timeline for the next several weeks as he comes at us with TWO shows after long drought.
