A Family Affair releases on Netflix in a couple of weeks on June 28. I saw it this week because I did the junket for it for ETALK, interviewing Zac Efron and Joey King, paired and virtual. It was a good interview and will be airing on our show in parts next week and the week after but I’m not really sure what I can say about it now, so I’ll keep it general and we can talk more about it closer to when it’s dropping…
This movie is the most I’ve ever enjoyed Zac Efron, like ever. He is HILARIOUS. Like the best way I can describe it is that he is so… un-self-conscious in his performance? Like just fully leaning in during those moments when he’s playing a spoiled and pretentious movie star, so funny I actually laughed out loud several times and it flew by. Also, his chemistry with Joey King, the way they play off each other, it’s the kind of thing where you want them to be in every movie together, like the new comedy duo for Millennials and Gen Z, they’re that good.
Anyway, this is all I’ll say for now but just know, it’s worth your time when it comes out. Until then, let’s talk premiere looks. Nicole Kidman is wearing custom Gucci and I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again: she’s being styled now by Jason Bolden and this is a FIRE partnership. Also… we’ve been talking about Gucci under Sabato De Sarno in the post-Alessandro Michele era and over the last few months, Gucci is definitely picking up some heat. Nicole is a big get.
Next, it’s so good to see Sherry Cola back out this summer with another comedy a year after Joy Ride. She looks great in this sheer dress under a long black blazer but the main event is her hair. It’s a great topknot, I might have to jack this.
OK but you know the member of the cast who might be the most famous with your kids? Liza Koshy. She’s good in the movie, a lot of promise as an actor, and I’m definitely interested in seeing her in more work. This polka dot halter dress is great on her.
And finally Joey King, in a sublime Simone Rocha two-piece. I’m partial to SR, I wear a lot of her clothes on ETALK. The Simone Rocha aesthetic is feminine but not body-con, bows and pearls and ribbon but not tight. Puffy sleeves, slouchy cuts, super pretty and a lot of flow and movement. This was a perfect choice on Joey, who styled herself.
