Simona Tabasco, who most of us in North America first met in The White Lotus season two in which she played Lucia, aka the winner of The White Lotus season two, is now an Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy nominee for her work on the show. She also was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Europe 2023 list last week. It’s been that kind of year. And deservedly so. To come into the second season of a show that was so unexpectedly successful after its first season, and carrying so many new expectations, and manage to stand out among that cast – put it this way: Simona is one of five White Lotus actors in the Supporting category…and one of them is Jennifer Coolidge! This is the very definition of what it means to become a breakout star.
Jennifer is the overwhelming favourite to win in that category but, really, for Simona, the nomination is the achievement. Not everyone means it when they say it; in her case it’s 100% true. We will see a lot more of Simona in the years to come. Mike White saw it in her for his series, everyone else is now paying attention.
Here’s Simona today at the Giffoni Film Festival. Pretty sure she’s not there promoting a specific project from a struck company, rather she’s there to be celebrated for her breakout status, so I don’t think this is a scabbing situation. Simona is wearing Valentino. The dress is adorable, I love it. But I don’t love the shoe choice to go with it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m always in for red carpet flats – but these flat cage boots aren’t really vibing with what’s up top. That said, it is 100% an outfit that Lucia would put together.
