Saturday Night Live is all about tradition. There’s a schedule to the week that, by now, is probably familiar to pop culture enthusiasts. On Tuesday night, the week’s guest host goes out for dinner with the SNL team. Simu Liu is the host this coming Saturday and last night he was out for dinner with cast members including Chris Redd, Bowen Yang, Cecily Strong, and producer Lindsay Shookus.
Simu’s actually arrived in New York before he had to – and was actually in Studio 8H for Jonathan Majors’ episode last weekend. Lindsay Shookus posted this on Instagram, courtesy Bleeding Cool:
They’re both MCU members. I feel like their paths will cross again.
And here’s Simu getting on stage early:
Shortly after this photo was taken, Simu was promptly tackled by security and ejected from the premises. He is currently in his hotel room eating nachos and rediscovering Taylor Swift. #WrongSaturday pic.twitter.com/aANZjNdgZr

I appreciate Simu bringing Asian posing to 8H:

Simu is from Toronto – and there’s already some Toronto energy at SNL. Not just because Lorne Michaels is Canadian, but also staff writer Celeste Yim, who is also from Toronto. They write often with Bowen and they’ve collaborated on some of the show’s most memorable sketches over the last year since they were hired (the only staff writer hired during the pandemic), like “Bonjour-hi!” Really hope we see a lot of Celeste’s work this weekend.
As for Simu, he’s not just high on SNL. He’s also celebrating Ji-Young, the first Asian American core muppet on Sesame Street!
Ji-Young will make her debut with Simu in time for American Thanksgiving during See Us Coming Together: A Sesame Street Special that will highlight the Asian and Pacific Islander community which also includes appearances by Naomi Osaka, Padma Lakshmi, and Anna Cathcart (Canadian too), who plays Kitty in the To All The Boys franchise – Kitty is getting a spinoff movie, have you heard?
To learn more about Ji-Young, watch the video below. Ernie’s face when he’s listening to Ji-Young talk about all that Korean food? Same, Ernie. Same.
