The Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue features skinny white girls on the front and actor/director portraits inside, all of them by Annie Leibovitz and much more interesting than the banality on the cover. Not to say that individually, those girls are delightful, but again, the lack of diversity was troubling, a reflection of that industry and also our own tastes.

But enough.

We move on to those who distinguished themselves in 2009. Which means that Carey Mulligan has two mentions in the magazine – here she is with An Education director Lone Scherfig. And a wonderfully vibrant shot of Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’Nique, and Lee Daniels ALL OF THEM just nominated for Academy Awards. And while I noted yesterday that a non-Hurt Locker Jeremy Renner wasn’t as hot as The Hurt Locker Jeremy Renner, in this portrait, with Kathryn Bigelow, both also nominated, he looks juuust fine.

But my favourite, of course, has to be A Single Man. This image is not Annie Leibovitz. This image is ALL Tom Ford. Would Colin Firth EVER stand like that if not for Tom Ford? And the way Tom’s own hand is in his pocket? F-cking AMAZINGNESS.
