I posted earlier about Colman Domingo and how he’s been everywhere this weekend in New York ahead of the Met Gala as one of this year’s co-chairs. Today he also attended the press conference, alongside Professor Monica L Miller, guest curator of the Costume Institute’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit, and of course Anna Wintour.
By day, Colman is in magenta. And it’s just the appetiser! What could he possibly have planned for tonight? We’re about to find out.
Also attached – Usher was seen arriving at The Mark which, as mentioned earlier in my post about Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro, is where a large number of Met Gala attendees are staying. Usher is not unfamiliar with “stylin’ out” and there is no doubt he’ll be bringing it tonight.
Hair and makeup is happening right now. I’m writing this just before 4pm ET and most people are already deep in glam. Except…maybe… Rihanna, LOL. Some years Rihanna shows up to the hotel to start getting ready when the red carpet is already at capacity. With Rocky as one of the co-chairs this year, though, and expected to be there for photos etc at the beginning of the night, I’m wondering how this fits into Rihanna’s schedule and if he leaves separately without her and doubles back for her after he’s done with some of his official duties.
What else happened today…
The New York Times published a piece about the “tricky politics of the Met Gala” today because even though the theme was decided on long before the results of the election last fall, the current administration has been trying to villainise DEI. And this event is happening, in New York City, in the loudest way possible. By the way, there’s a rumour that Kamala Harris will be attending and she’s definitely in the city right now. (NY Times)
A great piece at The Cut on the economics of the Met Gala for independent designers – all of their work will be featured tonight as they have designed for several guests. (The Cut)
If Kerry Washington is at the Met Gala tonight will she keep her bangs? She’s had bangs through the Shadow Force press tour. The Fug Girls aren’t feeling these split leather shorts that she has on. I don’t mind them at all. (Go Fug Yourself)
I’ve never seen this but now that I know some people see this I can’t unsee that they see it – that Bobby Moynihan and Horatio Sanz are the same person. (Pajiba)
James Marsden is talking about The Notebook and whether or not Allie should have ended up with Lon. You know what they say about marrying the first time and marrying the second time? Lon, for Allie, wanted to be a first husband when, for her, he was better as a second – if Allie and Noah didn’t make it, but of course they would have made it. But also, Lon would have been so much more attractive to me if his name wasn’t Lon! (Celebitchy)
