Angelina Jolie: Venice… soon?
After spending much of the year in New York working on The Outsiders, Angelina Jolie had been in LA the last couple of weeks, which is where she spent the Fourth of July weekend, seen on Sunday with son Knox at the pet store.
This is our latest installment of: HOW ARE THEY SO GROWN?! We’ve seen a lot of Knox’s twin, Vivienne, recently and she’s still shorter than her mom. Her brother, however, is now taller than Angelina. Knox and Vivienne are turning 16 on Friday so… again… HOW ARE THEY SO GROWN?! Where did the time go?
About three weeks ago, Angelina and five of her kids – Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and the twins – went to see Bad Boys: Ride or Die together at a theatre in Pasadena. This might be where she can relate to other parents in this time of life during the summer holiday. Because all the kids are home. With Maddox and Zahara both in university, they're living on their own during the school year. But wait, now that I think about it, Maddox started university in 2019 so technically he’d be finished a four year degree by now, although perhaps COVID delayed some of his studies. But I’ll say it one more time since if he hasn’t graduated he likely will soon… HOW ARE THEY SO GROWN?!
In other Angelina news – we might be seeing her back at work onscreen soon. Production on Pablo Larraín’s Maria, starring Angelina as Maria Callas, wrapped in December and the film is expected to be released some time this year. There’s only five months left in the year so we should be hearing something soon. It was reported a month ago that Maria could very well be part of the Venice Film Festival lineup considering that Larraín’s previous two films, Jackie and Spencer, had their world premieres there. And, you’ll recall, the leads in those projects, Natalie Portman and Kristen Stewart, playing Jacqueline Kennedy and Princess Diana respectively, went on to be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars.
It’s still early right now, but not that early. People already have their eyes on the fall slate of releases and the films and performances that could potentially contend. Many outlets are already putting out prediction lists. And Angelina is on many of them – for now, until the movie is screened and/or secures distribution.
Venice has already announced that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will open the festival. They will be confirming the rest of the lineup on July 23. At this point it’ll probably be a surprise if Maria isn’t on the list.
