Dear Gossips,

Happy Eclipse Day…?

It’s a question mark because I know there are those out there who are wary of this celestial event and the strange things that might occur. I have two eclipse preoccupations: how our dogs will react and Beyoncé, of course.

Veterinarians are saying that most animals won’t be too adversely affected by the eclipse although there may be some fear and howling and confusion. I wonder about meal times. We live with beagles and they are so motivated by food, I’m curious to see if they’ll take advantage of the darkness and be like, give us our dinner now, but three hours before their dinner.

As for Beyoncé, still don’t know what her new website BEENCOUNTRY.com is about and it doesn’t seem to be counting down to today with the new photo updates. Some people thought she might show up to the CMT Awards last night but that didn’t happen. Although… it’s official, COWBOY CARTER is her latest #1 album.

Will she celebrate by eclipsing the eclipse?

While we continue to wait to see what Beyoncé serves up next, just a few words on Saturday Night Live this weekend with host Kristen Wiig joining the Five Timers Club and countless surprise guests showing up to support her, including next week’s host Ryan Gosling who’s in town a week early to get ready for his episode.

As expected, it was one of the strongest episodes of the season. That Jumanji sketch was hilarious and I’ll never not laugh when she dances, in this case, French-dances, LOL.

But… come on. What did I tell you last week about Raye!

There are a lot of people who woke up to Raye on Saturday night (and I live with one of them) delivering, in my opinion, one of the all-time great SNL performances of all time. Two of them, actually!

I’m telling you, the entire album, My 21st Century Blues, is a revelation. Add it to the queue!

And finally, that SNL cold open – a commentary on how popular women’s basketball is, so much so that the women’s NCAA championship had so much more hype than the men’s final today. Of course the biggest reason is how the women are playing the game, the excitement level, their mad skills, but also? They look good! And let’s not pretend the style isn’t part of it since Angel Reese chose to announce her WNBA eligibility in Vogue.

But the players aren’t the only ones with the drip. Coach Staley’s silver jacket yesterday and Louis Vuitton kicks yesterday deserved their own trophy!

They play hard, they coach hard, and they can look great too.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
