Speaking of the Olympics, Celine Dion and Lady Gaga are still out and about in Paris, continuing to fuel rumors that one or both of them are performing during the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games tomorrow.
I will be a little surprised if there isn’t a French performer involved, too, as the opening ceremony is usually where the host country highlights their own culture and uniqueness, but Celine is a native French speaker, so maybe close enough? Certainly, Celine and Gaga are both huge stars that will pull in an audience who might not otherwise tune in for sports (let’s call this “Superbowl halftime thinking”).
And though I watch the summer Olympics every time they roll around, I’ve never particularly cared about the opening ceremony, but this year I am paying attention, so if it IS Celine and/or Gaga who will be singing, it’s working. But I’m also curious to see the “parade of nations” happen on the Seine.
Rather than walking around a stadium as is usual, the athletes will be sailing down the Seine on barges. It sounds beautiful in concept but there is also a degree of difficulty involved, as the Seine has a pretty strong current and barges aren’t terribly maneuverable and I don’t WANT anything to go wrong, but something MIGHT go wrong, and, well, I like watching garbage trucks on fire.
Here are Celine and Gaga out in Paris, separately, yesterday.
