Dear Gossips,

When Joe Biden announced that Kamala Harris would be his running mate yesterday Maya Rudolph was in the middle of an Emmy campaign Zoom call with Entertainment Weekly and other nominees. Maya’s been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Kamala Harris on Saturday Night Live. And with the US election coming up in less than three months now, of course SNL will be politics-heavy whenever it returns this fall. It was reported a few weeks ago that plans are underway for the show to return to studio but no premiere date for Season 46 has been set yet. Needless to say, with the news that Kamala Harris is the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, Maya will be getting the call. She said yesterday that she didn’t know yet if she was ready to travel, but to be fair, at that point, having juuuuuust found out, she was understandably still processing like everyone else. There’s no way Lorne Michaels won’t be trying to get her there, perhaps on, as she said, “an invisible helicopter”.

Break out the wind machine!

And also, leave room for Dr Anthony Fauci and Brad Pitt too? Like Maya, Brad’s been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. The Emmys are happening on September 20 and, typically, the fall series begin the week after. That seems like the season premiere that SNL and everyone else, I guess, would be hoping for?

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
