Zendaya has been nominated for her first Emmy for her work in Euphoria and if you haven’t watched it yet, maybe it’s time to get caught up because if you care about the entertainment industry and its talent, Zendaya is going to be one the biggest stars in the celebrity ecosystem for a long time – she’s just getting started and she delivers her strongest performance to date in the series. Which is just a taste of what she’s capable of.
Emmys voting begins tomorrow which is why we’ve seen so much campaign push the last few days. Jennifer Aniston’s interview with the LA Times was published earlier this week and she is the frontrunner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, which is also what Zendaya is nominated for. Z’s probably a longshot in the category considering Jennifer’s popularity and status, and the other artists in the running so for her, at least by how the industry works, the nomination really is the win.
As she told Ben Platt, filling in for Jimmy Kimmel last night, she was sleeping when the nominations were announced and was woken up by Euphoria showrunner, Sam Levinson. Ah, the old “I was sleeping” thing. They all claim they were sleeping. In Z’s case though, I believe it. You know why? Because she’s young! Not a teenager anymore but close enough, and with teenage sleeping habits. Through my teens and twenties, I slept all f-cking day. Z says during the interview that her pandemic sleeping cycle is all f-cked up anyway and she regularly sleeps until 2pm but pandemic or not, for a lot of people her age, sleep is constant! They sleep all the time! F-ck, I miss that. I’m a talented sleeper. I can fall asleep anywhere, whenever. But as you get older, adult things take priority.
Anyway, Ben then asked Zendaya about the virtual Emmys and whether that means she won’t be bringing it with a bomb-ass outfit. He cares too. We all care. Because no one saves a red carpet like Zendaya. So what are Zendaya and Law Roach planning? It’s not like they’re going to tell us. But she did confirm that she has plans. That it’s not just going to be jeans and a t-shirt (although if it was jeans and a t-shirt, you know Z would do it in a way that no one has ever done jeans and a t-shirt). That it will be a moment. OK she didn’t say it would be a moment but it’s always a moment when Zendaya arrives, even if it’s just in her own living room, lol.
Last year, after the Emmys and she showed up looking like this…

…. we gave her the lifetime achievement award and took her out of contention from that point forward because it’s just not fair to anyone else; she’s the best dressed every time. But now that we’re in unprecedented times, should we suspend the rule for this year?
That said, I hope the Television Academy, which promised all nominees that they’d gear them up with the tech they need to make this show happen, boosts her wifi connection or hardwires her for the broadcast. This picture quality here in this interview with Ben Platt is pretty low because cell service can be sh-t in LA. Seriously, that’s one thing you can claim you might have that’s better than celebrities: internet speed.
