New New Star Wars has fabulous hair and diverse faces
Star Wars: The Last Jedi covers Vanity Fair for June, once again photographed by Annie Leibovitz. There are four covers: one for the Jedi (Rey and Luke Skywalker), one for the villains (Captain Phasma, General Hux, and that emo punk Kylo Ren), one for the scrappy rebels (Poe Dameron, Finn, and newcomer Rose), and one for General Organa, alone and looking f*cking majestic in a cloak. Confession: I’m not watching The Handmaid’s Tale. I tried but I couldn’t make it through the second episode—it’s TOO REAL. When I read the book in college it was like a warning to not take for granted the ground gained and keep fighting for more, but watching the show now, with everything that’s going on and women’s rights under attack—I legit keep a list of potential states I can live in, where my right to bodily autonomy is being protected and it is depressingly short—I just couldn’t stomach it. Star Wars Celebration and hope for Rogue One

Star Wars Celebration, a sort of mini-Comic Con dedicated solely to all things Star Wars, was held in London over the weekend. (There won’t be a Hall H Star Wars presentation this year, and one wonders how long before Disney starts doing this for Marvel, too.) There wasn’t much actual news to come out of the event—we already knew about Alden Ehrenreich Full Story
Emmys Overdue: Peter Dinklage & Game Of Thrones

Peter Dinklage won his second Emmy for portraying Tyrion Lannister last night, a win that encapsulates my problem with the Emmys—oh yeah, I have a problem with the Emmys. My problem is this: The same shows win every year. And once something starts winning, it tends to turn into a juggernaut and win every year for a whole bunch of years regardless of whether or not it’s actually still the best thing on TV. Full Story

On Friday at Comic-Con, JJ Abrams took the stage along with LucasFilm chief Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and proceeded to blow the doors off the place. As promised, they did not show new footage, not exactly. Instead Abrams had a sizzle reel that had 6,500 hundred nerds weeping and screaming. Full Story
Katniss comes for the Capitol… with Brienne of Tarth
The first trailer for Mockingjay 2 just dropped. And Katniss isn’t avoiding anymore. Katniss is coming for the Capitol. And she brought her friends. Here’s one of them: Full Story
Get hard for Gwendoline Christie in Star Wars
If you still need a reason to get on board with New New Star Wars, let it be Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie as the villain, Captain Phasma. As part of their Star Wars edition, Vanity Fair is still rolling out new information on Episode VII—I still can’t bring myself to call it The Force Awakens. Full Story
The Force is awake, and it’s strong
Today is the Star Wars Celebration fan event in Anaheim, California—basically a Comic-Con Hall H presentation without Hall H—and JJ Abrams and the cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (or however that title officially goes) debuted a second teaser trailer. The movie doesn’t come out till Christmas, so we have plenty of time for full-blown plot-revealing trailers, but there’s a lot of new footage and information to digest. Full Story

Gwendoline Christie, though you probably know her as Brienne of Tarth, was named British Actress of the Year last night by Harper's Bazaar. Jaime would be so proud of her. No, really he would. I think? Or does he keep f-cking his sister? Don't tell me! It has indeed been a career year for Gwendoline. Full Story
Game Of Thrones: looking back and ahead

As expected, the Game Of Thrones panel at Comic-Con this weekend was a big deal. And it was a chance to say goodbye to a couple of our favourite characters. Also a look-ahead to Season 5. So here are Gidget and Oberyn Martell alongside Jon Snow and Arya Stark and the Hound and Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister who, for me at least, is quickly becoming the Pacey Witter of this show. Brienne & Gidget out together
Wenn, Splash
Brienne of Tarth and Gidget from Game Of Thrones were both at the Groucho Club in London last night. It makes me happy. It makes me happy that they hang out when they’re not in the North or fighting bears in the Seven Kingdoms. Spoiler alert, even though, you know, how can you not know by now. Full Story
