Let’s just keep speculating while we’re at it.

Katy Perry has confirmed that she will be performing at the Beyoncé-Adele Grammys on Sunday.

A new song called Chained To The Rhythm will drop on Thursday. And this is her new look:

If it’s a new song and a new look, all signs point to the fact that there will follow a new album. It’s been over 3 years since Prism. It’s time. Katy Perry is usually good for several hits. And if Chained To The Rhythm is the first track off a possible upcoming album, given the title, it sounds like a dance track, and it’ll probably get big radio play. Katy Perry always does.

So does Taylor Swift.

Taylor typically releases an album every other year. That passed in 2016. She performed in Houston on Saturday at the AT&T pre-Super Bowl party and told the crowd that, “as far as I know” it’ll be her only show of the year. Most people are interpreting this to mean she’s not touring in 2017… but does that mean there won’t be an album?

Taylor released 1989 in October. Then she toured the next year. So… it’s still possible. In fact, doesn’t it seem impossible for Taylor to stay quiet (by her standards) another year? Given her penchant for October releases, it’d actually be more. It’d be almost TWO years, if we’re pushing now to 2018. October 2018? That far away? It would certainly create the appetite. But that would be four years between albums. And, again, it almost seems like it’s a test of her willpower as much as the audience’s.

As I’ve said before, Katy and Taylor both dropping albums in the same year is exciting to me. That’s EXACTLY the kind of Girl Sh-t that can be great. It’s a work-off. It’s a creative-off. The best kind of off.
