Brange’s By The Sea, written and directed by Angelina Jolie Pitt and starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, opens in November. We were hoping the film would hit the festival circuits, giving us some Pitt Porn in Venice and Toronto. That’s not happening. They’re just going to drop it on us when it’s scheduled to drop on us, and basically when award season really gets going and the top contenders start to emerge.
They have however given PEOPLE Magazine some exclusive behind-the-scenes shots from the production in Malta last year, just after their wedding. Angelina tells PEOPLE that the most difficult part of directing her husband was the fight scenes. She’s previously said during a DGA interview last month that:
“I’d be directing myself and him in a scene where we’re having a fight, and I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other—it was very heavy. We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look.”
And last year she mentioned to Vanity Fair that “a few friends asked if we were crazy” to work on a project like this, about an estranged couple, on their honeymoon. Oh I don’t know. I kinda think they both get off on that. Maybe it’s the only kind of drama she’ll allow in her life now – scripted and controlled. And that works for me. Because it’s been over 10 years since Brange has been part of our gossip narrative. As the summer of the split rages on, I need these two to make it.
