Dear Gossips,

The NBA Finals started last night. LeBron vs Steph. It’s the matchup the league wanted. It’s the matchup the network wanted. But you know what got me hyped for the game? Not an article about LeBron or Steph but an interview with Doris Burke by one of Kathleen’s favourites, Rembert Browne. Doris reports on the NBA for both ESPN and ABC, basically my dream job. I want to be a sports reporter SO bad. Earlier this year they let me co-host a segment on TSN SportsCentre and it was one of the best days of my life:

But Doris Burke is an exception. Because, as you know, women have not always been welcome in sports reporting. She doesn’t want to be called a trailblazer though. She just wants to do good work. And besides, the way she sees it, it took some time for her to figure it out. She’s still trying to figure it out. The highlight for me, in an interview full of highlights (Drake makes a cameo), is when she talks about using her appearance to her advantage. And why she decided to. First of all, because you can also effect change from the inside and second because it’s OK to have fun while you’re doing it.

Please click here to read about Doris Burke. As for that Gregg Popovich moment she was asked about? You can watch it here. And then, if you want to appreciate the sh-t that Doris has to eat just because she’s doing her job, scroll down and read some of those comments. And or watch this if you haven’t already.

Have a great weekend!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
