When it was initially reported a couple of days ago that Taylor Swift and Calvin Adam broke up, we were assured that it was mutual and amicable although, ahem, as Kathleen noted yesterday, it was specified that Calvin Adam was the one who made the call. Now we’re getting a few more details. It was amicable, and there was no drama, but according to PEOPLE:

"[Harris] said on multiple occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend any events where she was being honored, or any award shows unless he was nominated," explains Swift's friend.

TMZ, not surprisingly, followed with a different interpretation - Adam Harris didn’t cut and run but, like Jake Gyllenhaal before him, he supposedly wasn’t comfortable in the spotlight:

Taylor Swift is all about Hollywood and Calvin Harris just wasn't feeling it, and that's why they broke up ... TMZ has learned. Sources close to the exes tell us Calvin is all about his music, working out and keeping a low profile. When he started dating Taylor 15 months ago they were keeping things private and not doing public events together ... so, he was cool with the relationship.

We're told once they started doing award shows, parties and red carpets ... Calvin grew more and more uncomfortable. There was no big blowup with Taylor -- we're told Calvin was just honest about his dislike for the Hollywood spotlight. His goal now is to get back to as low-key a lifestyle as possible, while still doing live shows and recording new music.

As for reports he was intimidated by Taylor's success -- a source close to Calvin calls that "laughable," since he's one of the most successful DJs in the game.

So, basically, Taylor Swift was “too Hollywood” for him and he’s not about that life. Which is like declaring you want to start eating healthy and then ordering cheese fries. Because it’s not like the Taylor Swift pre-Calvin Adam was any different from the Taylor Swift we saw after she started dating him. How is it possible that that was misrepresented? And does a guy who has a f-cking residency in Las Vegas have any business claiming he’s “low-key”?!!?!!!

Also, does a guy who changed his name from Adam Wiles to Calvin Harris because “My first single was more of a soul track, and I thought Calvin Harris sounded a bit more racially ambiguous. I thought people might not know if I was black or not. After that, I was stuck with it” actually get to front like he’s not a calculating, manipulative FAMEWHORE!?!

You grew up with the privilege of a white guy and schemed the street cred of a so-called “racially ambiguous” name to get to the top and now you want to talk about keeping your integrity outside the superficial glare of Hollywood? Sit DOWN, Calvin Wiles Harris Adam. You loved the game, motherf-cker. And keep backpedalling. Won’t help me remember your face.
