That Dame. She was all about the romantic drama, right up until she died…and Colin Farrell was her last boyfriend!
Remember when he spoke at her memorial service? Remember when we were all like, huh, how did that happen? Well, Colin’s promoting Saving Mr Banks right now and, during an interview with Ellen that airs this week, reveals how they met.
In short, he was at the hospital when his second son Henry (with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda) was born and ran into some of her people who were there to visit the Dame. Pleasantries were exchanged and then she sent him a rose and he called her back and they started talking to each other on the phone and although he stresses that their relationship was never “consummated”, he does describe it as “romantic” for almost two years after that. So now everyone is all like…
God he’s so sweet and awesome for getting hard for an old lady.
Of course. She’s Elizabeth Taylor.
But, um, he and Alicja were still together. And then they weren’t. And during that time he was calling Elizabeth Taylor at 2 o’clock in the morning. Which… can we call that an emotional affair? He had an emotional affair with the Dame right after his girlfriend just gave birth to his son. And that’s right in line with how Emma Forrest described her “Gypsy Husband” in Your Voice In My Head. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know I adore that book, and the author – click here to read my review from 2011. Forrest has never openly confirmed that Gypsy Husband is Farrell…but we all know it was Farrell. It was Farrell who loved her intensely, who consumed her, who asked her to have his baby…only to change his mind and leave her, and have a baby with someone else shortly after.
That’s a pattern.
He loves to fill a void. And when he realises that void can’t be filled, he tries to replace it with new love. And it repeats itself over and over and over again.
Look, if Jacek was emotionally cheating on me with Elizabeth Taylor, f-ck, I’d be down with that no problem. It’s Elizabeth Taylor! But still, let’s call it what it is: cheating.
