David Letterman signs off
WENN
Last night marked the official end of The Late Show with David Letterman. After his final interview, his last broadcast was dedicated to best-of segments, tributes, thank yous, and one last Top 10, which lined up some of Letterman’s most frequent and favorite celebrity guests. Full Story
So long, Dave, and thanks for all the fish

Tonight is David Letterman’s last show as a late night host. All week he’s had special guests—including Eddie Vedder who performed a rendition of “Better Man” with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra that made me teary-eyed—and last night Bill Murray sat in as Letterman’s last interview guest. George Clooney is comfortable in handcuffs

George Clooney handcuffed himself to David Letterman last night. To me, he seemed quite comfortable. And quite comfortable alluding to the fact that he was comfortable. And yes, as a favourite of Letterman’s, Clooney was a three block guest. Sort of. I mean, officially, he was a two block guest, but he pulled up a stool and stuck around for Tom Waits. Full Story
Julia last word and last kiss for Dave
Wenn, FameFlynet, Richie Buxo/ Soul Brother/ Splash News
Julia Roberts always gets the last word, so it makes sense that she would get David Letterman’s last kiss before next Wednesday’s big sign-off. After all, she is his favourite guest. He admitted it back in 2001 and he was clearly just as smitten last night. Full Story
Joaquin Phoenix is NOT ENGAGED
AKM-GSI/ Splash
Not engaged. NOT engaged. I just want to make that clear because most headlines you’ve read this morning will probably say that he IS engaged. But he’s NOT engaged. It was a prank. Because this is what happens when Joaquin Phoenix appears on David Letterman. He either pretends he’s retiring and f-cked up and on the verge of a breakdown or he tells a story about falling in love with his yoga instructor. Full Story

Man, that happened FAST. Kind of makes you think some wheels were already turning, and when, in the wake of David Letterman announcing his retirement the entire nation yelled as one, IT SHOULD BE COLBERT, they cemented a deal that was already in the works. Full Story
Good night, Dave
WENN
Yesterday during the taping of his show, David Letterman stunned his audience by announcing his retirement. He’s been on late night television for thirty-two years, the last twenty-one of which have been behind the desk at The Late Show with David Letterman. He broke Johnny Carson’s record in 2013 to become the longest-running late night host, and he stuck around long enough to outlast his rival, Jay Leno, which I’m sure is not coincidental. Full Story

How do you follow up Beyonce and Olivia Pope? Everyone else today has to measure up. God I hope Angelina Jolie makes an appearance. But Julia Roberts works too. Julia was on Letterman yesterday before attending the premiere of August: Osage County. Beyonce? Sorry. Right now Beyonce is everything. I’ll be popping Beyonce spasms for the rest of the day. Points for just showing up

Lindsay Lohan was on Letterman last night. You may have already heard about their “awkward” exchange when he pressed her on her rehab and when she’s going and her addictions, etc, but when you watch it back, you’ll see it wasn’t awkward. It was banter. She actually sasses him. Full Story
