You know the one awards show custom I totally don’t get? Changing into a totally different look for the after party – or parties.  I mean, I do get it, of course: why limit yourself to one outfit if you could choose two? I would have so much fun if I didn’t have to make one ultimate choice for every occasion where I’m putting together a significant ‘outfit’. Full Story

Vogue would like you to know that Florence Pugh is cool, but not like TOO COOL, she’s just the right amount of cool. She’s an It Girl, but she’s not an It Girl because she doesn’t trip or do cheesy late night talk show bits. Vogue will tell you all about newcomer Florence Pugh, who has been on the international cinema scene for three entire years, but they won’t mention her breakout role is Lady Macbeth, that’s just some “corset drama” she did in jolly old England. Full Story

Black Widow on her own

Sarah Posted by Sarah at December 3, 2019 16:15:41 December 3, 2019 16:15:41

At long last, and more than five years overdue, Black Widow has her own movie. The teaser for Black Widow was released this morning, and it looks…fine. If this was coming out sometime between 2012 and 2015, when fans were most loudly clamoring for a Black Widow standalone movie, it would probably play better. Full Story

Black Widow’s new duds

The Black Widow movie continues teasing us, making a stop at D23 the other day where some footage was screened—sounds like the same kitchen fight scene between Natasha Romanov and Yelena Belova—though the cast, still filming, was not present for this one. We do have, however, some new Black Widow duds to examine. Full Story

Little Women Grows Up With Us

Wowwwww. Clearly Lainey and I have made a mistake on Show Your Work, because we have yet to talk about the importance of having A Muse, and clearly it is working out for Greta Gerwig.  Have you seen this trailer?    Little Women has been highly anticipated and highly debated, because it means so much to so many of us, and because somehow despite being old fashioned it’s always felt extremely relevant – like, were there no books about girls and sibling rivalry before this? About having artistic ambitions? Probably not, and that’s why it’s always spoken so loudly – if you haven’t heard it, here’s a This American Life story from a few weeks ago Full Story

This year’s Comic-Con was strangely quiet, especially on the film side, so quiet that Marvel didn’t even have to pull out all the stops to “win” the weekend with their Saturday evening panel. All they had to do was literally show up, which is what they did. Marvel rocked up to Hall H and spent 90% of their panel confirming news we already knew, including confirming that the Black Widow movie is real. Full Story

Midsommar is the best breakup movie in the whole ass world

Writer/director Ari Aster really f-cked us up last year with his feature film debut, Hereditary. He’s back this year with his sophomore effort, Midsommar, a daytime nightmare about toxic relationships and the horror of white male mediocrity. Here’s the deal—Midsommar is not as traumatically frightening as Hereditary. Full Story

This is not a romantic movie

Lainey emailed me yesterday after she clicked on something that said, “Florence Pugh breakup movie”, only it turned out to be the new trailer for Midsommar, Ari Aster’s follow-up to Hereditary. Lainey does not handle horror well, so I think she might be scarred for life now. The first trailer gave us a better look at Aster’s new tale, which revolves around some kind of cult camp Full Story
