That’s pretty much the quickest way to get me interested in a movie. Tell me it’s about high school. It’s been a long, long f-cking time. And I’m still obsessed with high school and teen life. No matter what changes, the basic dramas and emotions of teenagers remain the same. They might wear different clothes, listen to different music, sh-t on each other on Snapchat and Instagram instead of passing nasty notes, but the core motivations endure.
That said, while some high school movies are classics, there are so many more that are straight up trash. A new high school movie is coming out though that, if the trailer is any indication, might be a new standard. The Edge Of Seventeen is about awkward Hailee Steinfeld. Her brother is the hottest, most popular guy in school. And she had bad hair growing up and a filthy mouth and a dirtier mind. I’m in. I’ve watched this several times now, each time asking myself if there’s something I should be bitching about and maybe I just have the Fridays but I’m not mad at anything. Just amused and excited.
