Immortals opens this weekend. It is Henry Cavill’s first big spotlight leading role. And he plays Theseus, also a leader, which I guess is why he’s shouting a lot at his army while fighting centaurs and Mickey Rourke. I don’t think it’s a film that will require you to actually pay attention to the story. Just look at all the men no shirts, sweating while launching arrows at each other or delivering cheesy lines. That’s a shame, really, because Greek mythology is great storytelling, with so much drama, intrigue, incest, and moral finger-pointing, you can find in it, perhaps, the origins of Gossip. It was my favourite class in first year at university.
Anyway...
Here’s Henry at the Immortals premiere last night in Hollywood. So it’s going up against Adam Sandler’s Jack & Jill and Clint Eastwood’s J Edgar with Leonardo DiCaprio. Very curious to see what the numbers will be. Like a starter course for Henry before the major pressure. Superman, have you heard? Man of Steel won’t be in theatres until June 2013. I wonder if that’s so we have enough time to cleanse ourselves from Immortals. What am I talking about? Look at this trailer. This is what people pay to see at the movies now.
