The first trailer for Hitchcock was released yesterday. Remember what a big ass deal was made over the fact that Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel were cast in the film? Let me rephrase -- remember what a big ass deal Shelfy tried to make of the fact that she was cast in the film? I had the impression that after Sir Anthony Hopkins (pronounced AnTony by Gwyneth Paltrow) those two would be the leads. So I’m watching the preview and it finishes and while Scarjo is present and accounted for, I don’t remember seeing Biel at all. I re-watch. Oh! There she is! Near the beginning. A quick, quick, quick glimpse. The cliché totally applies here -- you blink and you’ll miss her.
It turns out the real stars of Hitchcock are Hopkins and Helen Mirren. Well that’s a pleasant surprise, isn’t it? But if you’d read this article posted three days ago on PEOPLE.com would you have come to that conclusion? There’s the headline, of course, and the body of the piece -- which hilariously only focuses on Biel’s looks and nothing about her performance -- and then, at the end, almost as an afterthought:
Hitchcock, which also stars Anthony Hopkins as Hitch and Helen Mirren as his wife and creative collaborator Alma, is due for release Nov. 23.
“Which also stars”...?
Imagine the members of Generation Stupid who’ll show up at this movie thinking it’ll be all about two young actresses only to watch Hopkins and Mirren creatively sparring - how would they react? Are they promoting a movie called Hitchcock by focusing on the sexpot supporting actresses, one of whom is barely included in the first trailer? Marketing needs to get its sh-t together on this. Totally confused by their strategy so far.
