Maria posted about this in Smutty Social Media yesterday - someone tried to start a rumour that Katy Perry and Ryan Phillippe were dating. It was bullsh-t. But the paps started following him and he posted on Twitter that they don’t really know each other and could they please stop flying helicopters over his house?

Katy heard about it and replied, on Twitter, naturally. And then he replied to her reply:

So, basically, whoever tried to make Katy Perry + Ryan Phillippe a thing was full of sh-t. But… that’s not the point of this story. The point of this story is...a question: did those tweets seem flirty to you? A little?

And is it possible that even though Katy Perry + Ryan Phillippe started as sh-t it might turn into not-sh-t?

Back in the day, and by “the day” I mean 1995, celebrities used to get set up by their publicists. This is, famously, how Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston started dating. How improbable would it be for celebrities, in the age of social media, to be set up by Twitter, after a tabloid fabricated their romance? I would watch this rom-com. Somebody write this rom-com.

Attached - a new photo Katy posted to Instagram last night debuting even shorter hair.
