In the previous article, about casting the female lead in the second season of True Detective, given the list of actresses being auditioned, they seem to be looking for someone in her 30s who can go dark. This is why I don’t understand why Mrs Timberlake is on the list. Rosario Dawson? 100%. The best candidate.

And if I had to choose a replacement for Mrs Timberlake for who they should have come in to read, it would be Kirsten Dunst. In a new interview with The Edit, she talks about her television career plans:

“Because I started so young I feel like I can take time off now. If my career ended tomorrow I would be proud of the films that I’ve done. God,” she adds with a laugh, “that sounds so dramatic. But I don’t buy that stuff about things getting harder for actresses as they get older. Actually, I think it’s going to get easier. I mean, it’s the golden age of television and I’m only about five years away from doing a TV show, for sure. I’m not going to record an album or anything but I would definitely do a musical movie. Basically, I’m pretty much game for anything.”

Game for anything but at the same time, over the last several years, she’s made offbeat choices, which isn’t uncommon when you’re coming off a superhero franchise. In this industry though, it’s usually actors who have that luxury over actresses. But there was a time when Kirsten Dunst really wasn’t well. And she stepped back from the fame game to sort her sh-t out. Since then, the operative word is “stable”. A stable professional life. A stable relationship. With Garrett Hedlund. All of that combined has chilled her out. And it shows. She puts that out there:

“I’ve got a little bit more of a tummy now, so although I own about 20 pairs of jeans, I’ll wear the same three for a year because the rest are from when I was skinnier,” she shrugs. “I guess if I wasn’t comfortable and in a relationship I’d be thinner. When you’re with someone, you eat so much more and you chill out a bit – but I don’t criticize myself more than is healthy, because there’s such a lot of that, isn’t there?

It’s a good interview. It’s the most I’ve liked her, ever. She’s still shy, but she’s not defensive. She’s guarded but she’s still forthcoming. She sounds light and fun, like she’s not taking it So.Seriously. It’s a good look on her.

Here she is leaving The Today Show this morning. Click here to read the full article and to see the photos. Great photos.
