Angelina Jolie was photographed yesterday out with Miss Zahara and Vivienne leaving the mall. This is, of course, after her big Comic-Con appearance where she was officially announced as a member of the  Marvel family, cast as Thena in The Eternals… or Eternals?  We’ve now been through a decade of Marvel movies and building the Avengers. Full Story

Though it’s been rumoured for months, it wasn’t official until this weekend at Comic-Con: Angelina Jolie will play Thena in The Eternals. Or Eternals? Sorry. This is the kind of thing I fixate on. According to the poster, there is no “the”. But then in the caption of the tweet, the “the” is included in THE ETERNALS. Full Story

He didn’t, of course. He and his wife Emily V. Gordon were nominated for their screenplay The Big Sick and didn’t win, though it picked up Best First Screenplay at the Independent Spirit Awards the night before. I was anxious about this – The Big Sick was a totally worthy screenplay but my heart was with Get Out, so I had very complicated feelings – but ultimately I think Kumail had almost as big a night not winning as he would have had they won. Full Story

 “Shut up, listen and amplify.” That’s how Kumail Nanjiani chose to end his acceptance speech at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Coming off the Golden Globes where men barely acknowledged the recent seismic shift in their industry which is entirely a THEM problem, it was nice to hear a man not only address the issue but rightly call out his fellow men to do the bare minimum: “shut up, listen and amplify. Full Story

The Golden Globes have always been much more interesting in how they recognise achievements in television. We’ll get to some of their TV nominations in a separate post. Where film is concerned, even though you think that with the drama and the musical/comedy categories separated, there’s still room for inclusion, and there’s a lot of room for f-ckery. Full Story
