I keep thinking Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood doesn’t open until August. It actually opens in two weeks, on July 26. Doesn’t have much competition that same week but, of course, it’ll be contending with The Lion King from the week before. A more specific audience, obviously, but the box office has been unpredictable this summer. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Cannes 2019 isn’t over yet but the festival’s biggest story is and will likely continue to be Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time …in Hollywood. So the Cannes love affair with QT continues. They adore him there and, apparently, since the reviews have been outstanding so far, he’s delivered on the Croisette once again.  Read Full Intro

Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie were seen in LA yesterday on a photo shoot, presumably to promote Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Everyone was expecting Quentin Tarantino’s latest film to screen at Cannes – they love him there – but when the initial lineup was released a few weeks ago, it was said that the film wasn’t ready. Full Story

The only good things to come of Suicide Squad is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. We can—and probably will—pretend like the rest of that mess never happened, but Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller can stick around for the DC Extended Universe Mark II. There’s no word yet on if Davis will return in any future DC movies, but Margot Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn. Full Story

Margot Robbie did not present at the SAGs since, apparently, the Academy is insisting on exclusivity for their show. But she was on hand as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress, and she showed up in a sunny golden Chanel dress that feels like a warmup for the main event at the Oscars. Lainey thinks this dress is looking ahead to her role as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s not-Manson-but-totally-Manson movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Full Story

Award Season Presenter Drama?

Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter came out with some delicious award season inside baseball this morning.  So the Golden Globes happened on Sunday. Since the show takes place right after the new year and since they honour both TV and movies, and since it’s the show where people drink at their tables and get drunk, the Globes can challenge the Oscars for ratings. Full Story

Mary Queen of Scots is a slightly anachronistic and completely ahistorical telling of the feud between Mary, Queen of Scots—the lack of proper punctuation in the title drives me nuts—and Queen Elizabeth I. Take this as even less of a history lesson than The Favourite Full Story

Mary, Queen of Scots was considered an early Oscar contender several months ago. Now that we’re balls deep in award season, I don’t feel like anyone is talking about it anymore? The reviews seem to be OK to good, not great, but no one seems to pushing hard for it. The Favourite is the period piece everyone’s saying will be nominated for several Oscars. Full Story

Superhero and antihero movies are usually Sarah’s beat. But I’ve been trying to leave her alone because it’s American Thanksgiving which is why you’re getting me for this story, a comic book story. Should be fun and enraging. Fun for me, probably enraging for Sarah when she gets back. Full Story
