Meryl Streep has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The FIRST ACTOR EVER to receive the honour. EVER motherf-ckers. EVER. The only person to be made a member based exclusively on acting achievement.
Meryl’s reaction: “I have to say that I was stunned, and when they sent me the roster of people in the Academy I just burst into tears. I couldn't believe that I'd be even allowed in the kitchen."
The ceremony takes place next month. As for what she expects out of the evening, in typical Streep fashion, she confessed that:
"I just hope to have lots of cocktails and talk about high-fallutin' things."
Please.
She is The Best. And remember, her mother told her she was Capable. Not special. Not divine. Not destined but Capable. Now THAT is a good word.
