By now, you’ve probably seen Netflix’s Strong Black Lead short film. The spot is a recreation of the iconic 1958 photo “A Great Day in Harlem” but instead of legendary jazz musicians, Netflix brought together 47 black directors, producers, writers and actors. The promo has been dubbed “A Great Day in Hollywood” and each of these black creatives work on Netflix originals. Full Story

The Netflix division of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Defenders, had a premiere in New York last night, for their upcoming team-up series which starts streaming later this month. “The world is ready for a bulletproof black man.” That’s what Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker said at Comic-Con in July. I would watch the show based on that statement alone but Netflix’s Luke Cage looks like it’s actually going to live up to the hype.
