The trailers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens suggest that Oscar might be in danger. And I wrote the other day that there was some speculation that this might be his one and only go at the franchise. Click here for a refresher. Well, last week in Mexico, Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm and pretty much the priestess of New New Star Wars, made some comments. Gesturing in the general direction of where John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Gwendoline Christie were sitting with her on the panel, when asked about the upcoming movies and the storyline, she seemed to suggest that they would be returning.
I like where we are now with Oscar though. Two years ago, around this time, after the release of Inside LLewyn Davis and Fruitvale, both Oscar and Michael B Jordan were breakouts on the long list of possible award nominations. You knew it wasn’t going to happen for it then, but that, rather, 2013 was an establishing year for their careers and that better and bigger was on the way. It’s coming true.
