Dear Gossips,

Busy night last night with the SAG Awards and Rent: Live and Sundance happening at the same time. So we’re starting with some SAG content with me and Sarah, then switching over to Rent for a couple of posts from Duana and Kathleen, then going back to the SAGs, concurrent with Sundance coverage.  Read Full Intro

I’m not mad, I just want to talk to whoever was in charge of Shangela’s look at the SAG Awards yesterday. Although it wasn’t a big night for A Star is Born, it was a big night for Shangela and Willam, two of my favourite drag queens who walked the red carpet. The two joined the ASIB team at the SAG Awards yesterday, even though they weren’t actually nominated. Full Story

Margot Robbie warming up Chanel

Margot Robbie did not present at the SAGs since, apparently, the Academy is insisting on exclusivity for their show. But she was on hand as a nominee for Best Supporting Actress, and she showed up in a sunny golden Chanel dress that feels like a warmup for the main event at the Oscars. Lainey thinks this dress is looking ahead to her role as Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s not-Manson-but-totally-Manson movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Full Story

Hugh & Timmy: SAG tablemates

At one point during the broadcast last night, the camera cut away to Hugh Grant and Timothee Chalamet, sitting next to each other, and I immediately needed more. I needed a microphone at that table recording the conversation. Was there even a conversation?  Hugh Grant is famously awkward. Duana lost her mind and fell in love with him last year at the Golden Globes Full Story

Black Panther coming through!

All award season, no one has really expected Black Panther to win. Just being nominated IS the win, when the trophy club is so stacked against superhero movies. But the SAGs broke rank and actually gave Black Panther a trophy, awarding the cast Best Ensemble, the equivalent of Best Picture. This is a big deal! The SAG Awards are not a great prognosticator for the Oscars—their Best Ensemble lines up with Best Picture slightly less than 50% of the time—but the actors are the biggest voting branch of the Academy. Full Story

Bradley Cooper was at Lady Gaga’s show in Las Vegas on Saturday night. She invited him on stage to sing “Shallow” with her. Naturally it went viral. If you haven’t seen it yet, here are two angles. I prefer the second angle because…  Well…  We all know Gaga is extra. Full Story

The SAGs choose Emily Blunt

This was a surprise. Regina King was one of the biggest snubs when the Screen Actors Guild announced their nominations a few weeks ago and, since she was contending, most people thought it would go to Amy Adams. Instead it was Emily Blunt who ended up winning the SAG for Supporting Actress. She looked surprised too – especially since she was NOT nominated for an Oscar a few days ago. Full Story

There are many ways to go “official” now. It used to be just “red carpet official”. “Instagram official” is now a thing. And there are different levels of “Instagram official” – you can go “official” on an Instagram story but when it shows up on your feed, well, then it’s locked. Full Story

Sandra Oh Surprises at SAGs

They say the mark of a good actor is that they’re able to continually surprise you. It’s not surprising that Sandra Oh won the SAG award last night, as she has swept every award this year, and I’m sure there are people who want to retroactively go back and award her the Emmy last year, too. Full Story

Chris Pine Wears Clothes

Chris Pine is not my Best Chris—that would be Hemsworth—but maybe he’s yours. He is enough people’s Best Chris that I accept him as A Best Chris. Maybe not THE Best Chris, but definitely A Best Chris. He made a case for being THE Best Chris by showing up to the SAG Awards in a cream tuxedo and velvet slippers. Full Story

Mahershala Ali, a reluctant frontrunner

Mahershala Ali made history at the SAG Awards last night. He became the only actor to win the Best Supporting Award twice in the show’s 25-year history. At this point, you can already put Mahershala’s name down on your Oscar ballot for your office pool. He’s the safest bet in a season full of tight races. Full Story
