Ring Watch is so dumb. It’s almost as dumb as Bump Watch. And probably just as unreliable. Here’s Scarlett Johansson walking around New York with her boyfriend Romain Dauriac this week wearing a ring and suddenly she’s engaged. Her rep quickly denied it.
As you know, Scarjo is currently performing on Broadway in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. So most days, you know exactly where she’ll be. And still, she’s not papped very often. She’s not papped much at all. Once again, when Scarjo says she hates getting papped, and she’s been at this a long time, she means it. This is why when she and Ryan Reynolds were together, there were only, like, maybe 4 or 5 shots of them in the same frame through their entire relationship. The same does not apply to his current situation. He follows the lead of his ladies.
In other Scarjo news, she spoke recently to Broadway.com to the play and in the interview, she confirmed that she did in fact audition to be Fantine in Les Miserables. It was an interesting answer:
We’ve talked about you doing a musical at some point. Is it true that you auditioned to be Fantine in the Les Miz movie?
Yes, I did. I sang my little heart out.
Was it terrifying?
No, are you kidding? The jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon! And I auditioned with laryngitis. I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis. And I think looking at the film now, there’s no possible way I ever could have topped that performance [by Anne Hathaway]. It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be. But, yes, the audition itself brought back so many memories of auditioning for Les Miz for the young Cosette, and it was fun for me to revisit that.
Gracious? Yes. But also the laryngitis comment, the “fateful” comment -- is it petty, or is it...self preservation? This is some insight into the actor. These people, actors, rejection is what happens over and over and over again. They have no choice but to believe that they are the best, that they deserve it. I wrote once, in reference to James Franco, that insecurity is the weakness of the actor. They are all so insecure. They over compensate with confidence. Because it’s the only way they can move forward. It’s the only way they can stay on with something that has such a low, LOW success rate. And besides, in that business, where ego is everything, you’re never allowed to say that someone else was better than you without building in an excuse.
So what is Scarjo’s dream role?
Norma Desmond. She wants to do Sunset Boulevard.
Click here to read the full interview. It’s pretty good. Except for the gross part where she’s asked about wearing her “slip” and whether or not she used her Avengers training to get her body ready for it. You can tell she thought it was a dumb question too.
