Here was my reaction to Lainey’s asking if I wanted to write about the Veronica Mars movie: “Ugh. Does she KNOW this has been a thing for years? It’s never gonna happen.”

Then I read the article and went , “Ugh. Yeah, but the whole point was that Veronica was in high school. Is it still a thing if she’s just a 30 year old investigator?”

And then I went to watch the video. And I mean…come on. When first Logan spoke in his soft voice, I was banging on my desk. When I heard that familiar “Veronica, could you come in here?” my heart leapt. And by the time they made a reference to how Greg Parker on Flashpoint was actually played by Enrico playing Keith Mars PLAYING Greg Parker, I was over the moon.

Watch for yourself.

Extra bonus points go to the reference to “When In Rome” mad money and all the references to brooding and the idiocy of everyone and just how great all these people are together. None of them has had huge success outside of the show – which maybe is great. Remember how getting the Arrested Development team together wound up being about ego and money and ego? You don’t get that sense here, do you? They all just really, really want to do this – and at a budget goal of $2 million, it’s not because of the giant paydays they’re going to get, either.

So is this going to work? I mean, it’s been up for what, three hours, and they’ve reached over a quarter of their goal? I think it’s safe to say that they’ll make it, especially since at least one person has already donated 10,000 individually.   Distribution seems to be in place… so this could be the moment when …

My concerns about the fact that Veronica is no longer a teen still apply, but seeing the chemistry between the leads in the wee teaser has pointed out that maybe nobody makes Kristen Bell as sarcastic-yet-vulnerable as they do. I do think Veronica’s a compelling character no matter what age she is so I’m excited to see what happens to her when people don’t make exceptions for her being a tiny young blonde. Now I fear a movie might not be enough.

If you’re one of those people who’s been on the fence about the show and doesn’t understand what the fuss is about, don’t find out from the trailer. Go watch the show, which you really will love (two caveats – ti’s not about what you think it’s about, and also, don’t worry about who’s in Episode 2, it’s not a trend).

As for the actual Kickstarter rewards (click here for the article) – to me, this is gross. You should be donating for the puposes of wanting to see the movie and not because you want Percy Daggs III to record your voicemail. It’s not unlike approaching a celebrity, buying your way into a scene –gross and it’s not going to start your acting career or your best friendship with K Bell or Rob Thomas. Just give because you want to see the movie.  Also, it looks like prize fulfillment is limited to US citizens anyway, so there.

But then, part of the reason I feel this way is because they give us so much already.   Check out this bottom part of the FAQ…

Q: What if the movie doesn't end in the way I've believed it should end for the past six years?
A: Eek.
Q: Veronica better end up with Logan, Rob. She just better.
A: That's not a question.
Q: We're just saying...
A: I hear you. Remember it's noir. There aren't a lot of happy endings.
Q: Noir, my ass. We've waited a long time for this.
A: (Busily reworking super-grim ending.)

How can you not be in love with this?  How can you not go flip this movie $10? I feel like having a kickstarter of my own, raising no money, but banding everyone together so that everyone in the screening I go to is a rabid megafan and loves Enrico. I think it might not be hard.
