Lainey wrote about Seth Rogen in Venice the other day and it got me thinking about The Studio, which I finished. And I know this is a ME problem, but I don’t enjoy it. I like all the actors, I enjoy the cameos and I generally love inside baseball shows but I feel nothing. I don’t care about any of the characters or storylines.
I want in on the fun but I can’t get there, it’s very frustrating.
Alexandra Grant posted a birthday tribute to Keanu Reeves along with a warning to his fans: Keanu is NOT in your DMs asking for bitcoin.
I don’t know if goop’s rebrand is complete – is this it? It’s hard to tell because everything looks the same. I think the goal is to get back to basics and for goop the basics are luxury travel, beauty, and fashion. The brand really only had two ways to go: super mass market (which they sort of attempted with the Target line) or pull back on the gimmicks like vagina candles and set themselves as a tastemakers. But if I go outside my Gen X bubble and look at who is moving the needle in travel, beauty and fashion, is it Gwyneth Paltrow?
Sofia Richie Grainge is launching a clothing line, SRG Ateliere. It’s easy to dismiss but think back to when the Olsens launched The Row; who could have predicted that they would sell out of $1000 flip flops (not a typo) and they’d have a devoted customer base of women who purchase their entire line, every year.
Sofia is highly influential for her age and has money to burn, which means she has time. A measured pace seems to be what worked for The Row and for Victoria Beckham. It’s the rush to expand that hurts high-end lines, the race to create sunglasses or a bag that can fund everything else. Rihanna’s FENTY only lasted three years and I suspect it’s partly because she partnered with LVMH, a conglomerate that needs to see profit pretty quickly.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is 10 (!!!) and to celebrate, Rachel Bloom is hosting a few live shows. Is this a way of putting out feelers for a larger tour? Just in case, I already asked our site manager Emily to commit to a Vancouver show with me. (Note from Emily: I'm there!)
The wedding of the summer happened in Europe and it’s not the Bozos. Charles Porch, VP of Global Partnerships at Instagram and Robert Denning, who is on the board of trustees at the MET, were married in France. The guest list is too long to start rattling off big names but it was a mix of celebrity and high society. The gaggle of children in Thom Browne could be an advert. This is so Vogue.
