Intro for August 5, 2026
Dear Gossips,
Andrew Garfield who was once Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and came back to play him in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 (how has it been five years) is currently promoting a new movie just as Spider-Man: Brand New Day is breaking all kinds of box office records. Now that BND is out though, at least he doesn’t have to answer any more questions about whether or not he’s in it.
His new film is The Magic Faraway Tree, which released in the UK a few months ago and is opening in North America on August 21. Andrew’s been on the junket with Claire Foy and was also seen yesterday in New York doing an interview in Washington Square Park. In the film he plays a dad who is “goofy”, “silly”, and “embarrassing” and … does this sweater vest fit the part? Maybe 20 years ago the answer would be yes. But retro sweaters are very much on trend right now. I actually love his sweater vest, I’m just not convinced they’re the right pants.
Still, Andrew has been making some choices on this press tour. Like this yellow shirt from last week.
It’s the hair, I think. The hair has opened up another style range for him – borderline sleaze, but not quite. One more undone button would have taken it there but he’s keeping it just on the edge, I’m not mad at it.
About that hair, though. He has been asked, and his answer has gone viral. This is Andrew talking about how much he’s enjoying the hairstyling options that are now available to him, LOL.

I don’t understand the Tom Cruise reference, I’m not sure if he’s referring to Tom’s mullet from that film or if he’s confusing the half-up half-down Tom Cruise with his hairstyle in Magnolia, because that was 100% half-up half-down and… sorry to say… but iconic, considering both his performance in that film and the film’s status among cinephiles. (The clip below is NSFW and scarily prophetic when viewed through today’s lens.)
That was the late 90s. If we’re talking about the summer of 2026 though, and the half-up half-down hairstyle for men, there is only one reference: JIMIN!
Anyway, Andrew has yet to go half-up half-down in public and he’s being cautioned against it, apparently, perhaps by Monica Barbaro but… we need to see it. For gossip and for pleasure, take it out for spin.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
