Angelina Jolie was in New York last night after another screening and Q&A for Maria ahead of its limited theatrical release in two weeks before streaming on Netflix starting December 11. Sarah texted me after she saw it a couple of days ago. It was an all-caps message that simply read: “ANGELINA”. When I prompted her for more, she wrote back “SHE is incredible”.

This is consistent with how a majority of critics have reacted to her performance, and that’s also why she’s in the Best Actress Oscar conversation which is looking like the most competitive category among all four acting categories this year. Cynthia Erivo, for example, is picking up momentum along with the Wicked hype. So we have at least nine lead actresses who are in the running:

Karla Sofia Gascon

Mikey Madison

Nicole Kidman

Saoirse Ronan

Tilda Swinton

Demi Moore

Mariane Jean-Baptiste

Angelina Jolie

Cynthia Erivo

And maybe a longshot, like June Squibb. If there’s a “snub” this year? It could very well be Angelina. I’m so curious to see how the actors branch of the Academy votes.

To go back to Sarah, one of her texts to me after screening Maria was also “She is so mesmerising. Her FACE.”

And also, her LIPS.

From the moment she broke out over 25 years ago, it’s been those lips. She was born with the lips that people are trying to achieve with injections. Tom Ford Beauty said it: “a true lip icon”. In a classic red lip. The ad dropped yesterday.

Look at this FACE. And those LIPS.

Getting her for this campaign was a no brainer.
