WOW.
On Monday, I already posted that Angelina Jolie wore the Outfit of the Week at the beginning of the week…and not she’s topped herself.
Here she is at the London premiere of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, saving the most spectacular dress she’s worn this press tour – and over the last few years, a Ralph and Russo shimmering gown with a drop cape. Check out the back of it, the way it dips between the shoulders. It’s exquisite:
Every detail is exquisite, from the pointed shoulders that tip to the edge of her character to the delicate trim along the bust and the waist to the cascade of sequins that fall like raindrops all the way from the neck down. It’s a dress for a coronation. She has never looked more regal, more glamorous, more glorious.
And she knows it. She knows how this gown will photograph. She knows that it will elicit gasps. She was saving it for tonight, coordinated with Elle Fanning, for maximum impact. This is a f-cking supernova of a dress and a year ago, you wouldn’t have expected to see her in it.
But that’s where we are now: Angelina Jolie has been telling us something, and she hasn’t been subtle about it. I keep saying it feels like a comeback even though it’s not like she needed to come back. But maybe it’s more like a ….reclamation. What’s up, it’s Angelina. I’m taking back my throne. It’s been sitting empty for too long.
