Intro for July 17, 2024
Dear Gossips,
The Emmy nominations will be announced today at 1130am ET/830am PT and we’ll have more posts about that later. For me personally, the Emmys storyline I care most about is Shōgun and how many nominations the series will receive. Shōgun is heavily predicted to lead the way in the drama series category and its breakout star, Anna Sawai, is considered by many to be one of the frontrunners for Best Actress.
Shōgun won the Television Critics Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama a few days ago and Anna won the award for Individual Achievement in Drama. She accepted her award in person, wearing a red Patou set, styled by power stylist Karla Welch.
Three weeks ago, Anna was sat front row at the Chanel show during Paris Haute Couture week. Every fashion house should be lining up to dress her now. Because she WILL be going to the Emmys as a favourite to win. At least she should be. If her name isn’t called today?! WE RIDE AT DAWN.
In addition to Shōgun, the other show predicted to be heavily nominated is The Bear, in the comedy category… which… eyeroll. Keep in mind, it’s The Bear’s SECOND season that’s up for consideration and not the (uneven) season that just dropped. Interestingly enough, the Television Critics Association chose Hacks as their Outstanding Comedy and Jean Smart as their best comedic actor. I really want this to be more of a showdown between the two. Both shows are wonderful (even if it’s a head-scratch that The Bear is being considered a comedy) so please, let’s not make it so that The Bear runs away with it. Let’s not disrespect the Big C-nt Energy of Deborah Vance and Jean Smart!
Again, more Emmys coverage coming this afternoon.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
